Who's Who

At the Office of Information Technology

To see the management structure more clearly, check out orgchart.byu.edu.

Tracy FlindersChief Information Officer; VP of Information Technology for BYU
The top dog at OIT. He took this job after several years of working in John Payne's role as CISO and director of the SOC, so the SOC is still really near and dear to his heart. Make him proud!
John PayneChief Information Security Officer
He oversees the SOC (although he's not directly managing it on a day-to-day basis). If you go to this page - he's the one that the other directors report to. Brian reports to him on some projects.
Todd BrownDirector, Security Risk Management and Consulting
Todd's role can sometimes seem a little more nebulous - the best way to understand it is to look at the Standards and Procedures section on the SOC site. His name is on almost every document. When it comes to documentation and policy-making, Todd often takes the lead. He also oversees the work of making sure that campus systems conform to the Minimum Security Controls, and he's also the point man for training and consulting. Brian kinda-sorta reports to Todd on some projects.
John Lepinski

Officially - Manager, IT Administration
Unofficially (?...it used to be official) - In charge of Communications for OIT

John manages a number of things at OIT, but among those are the other designers and animators who work here. He's really knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to design and motion. Brian *officially* reports directly to John Lepinski, but he used to report directly to John Payne, so the two Johns kind of share Brian (and, by extension, you!)

Nate Walton

IT App Engineering Manger/Brightspot Product Manager

Nobody knows Brightspot like Nate, because it's ultimately his responsibility. You can always take your Brightspot questions to the #brightspot or #byu-sites Slack channels to ask the whole community...but 7 times out of 10, Nate's the one who'll answer.

Rebecca Bean

UX/UI Designer

Rebecca's just a really awesome person. She's a great resource for both general design questions and specific UX questions. Nobody knows Adobe XD like Rebecca does.

Joann Tupaz Vogtman

UX-UI Services Director

Rebecca's supervisor. Another great resource for design and UX design.
